O’Dwyer Homes receives highest recognitions from Builders, Peers
Named HBA Builder of the Year; HomeAid Atlanta Builder Captain of Year for 2006
ATLANTA – For Dan O’Dwyer building homes and giving back to the community go hand in hand. From the time he was twelve, he dreamed of being a home builder. His goal has always been to leave the world a better place.
Because of his dedication to his profession and the community, two major organizations – the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and HomeAid Atlanta – have awarded O’Dwyer their highest honors: HBA’s Builder of the Year and HomeAid’s Builder Captain of the Year.
“Being honored by these two groups leaves me humbled,” O’Dwyer said. “I’ve always been focused on service, giving back and doing the right things, but I never expected to receive either of these awards as the result!”
A graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in construction management, O’Dwyer has worked in the home-building business for nearly three decades. In 1992, he founded his own company - O’Dwyer Homes in Alpharetta, GA. The company builds more than 200 homes annually; the company’s products include single-family homes and active-adult luxury ranch villas, starting at $200,000 upwards to more than $500,000. O’Dwyer communities are located throughout metro Atlanta, including Cobb, Cherokee, Gwinnett, Douglas and Forsyth counties.
Ann Carey of HomeAid Atlanta states, “I nominated O’Dwyer for Builder of the Year, not only because of his work with HomeAid Atlanta, but also because of the impression he made on me for his genuine caring and involvement.”
“Dan O’Dwyer cares actively about his profession,” Carey said. “There’s just one Dan O’Dwyer. Business associates and members of the church choir know the same guy – someone whose devotion to excellence and sense of fair play are part of everything he does. Whether building shelters for homeless women, working on projects at his church, or mentoring youngsters through coaching, Dan is never afraid to dig deeper.”
In 2005, Dan volunteered as a Builder Captain for the HomeAid Atlanta program and led the renovation of The Drake House, two apartment buildings for homeless single women with young children. More than 100 volunteers donated thousands of hours to The Drake House under his leadership.
O’Dwyer served on the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (HBA) Board of Directors from 1994 to 1997 and from 2000 to present. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors
of the National Association of Home Builders and is a member of the Professional Builders Cooperative. He is an active member of the Certified Professional Home Builder program and serves on its Certification Committee.
As President of the Fulton County chapter of the HBA in 1994 and 1995 he was chosen Fulton County Builder of the Year in 1995. He served as Treasurer and Vice President of the Cobb County chapter in 1991 and 1992. O’Dwyer has been an active member of the HBA since 1992 (as president of O’Dwyer Homes) and has been involved with the HBA since 1987 (with UDC Homes).
O’Dwyer Homes builds both Easy Living and EarthCraft Homes. He has been a Certified Professional Home Builder since 1998.
Dan O’Dwyer and O’Dwyer Homes actively support a number of community groups, organizations and causes, including Mercy Clinic in Buford, which provides medical and dental care for the area’s Hispanic population. He is active in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, donating to the church rectory and serving as the Construction Manager for St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church Prayer Garden. He is also the current sponsor for The Hope for Children Adoption Agency and past KaBoom sponsor for the Frank L. Stanton Elementary School in Atlanta.
O’Dwyer and his wife Kathy have two children. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, fishing, golf and participating in church activities.
